My Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is rooted strongly in the power of empathy. I will create a space where students feel safe and able to put their best foot forward because of that. My students will be best prepared for the next stages in their life academically and mentally by learning to act with kindness and empathy. I will acknowledge that all of my students bring something different to our table, and growing together to be a team will enhance each and every one of our strengths. My role as their teacher will be to give them problem-solving tools to use in new or confusing situations, and that will be personalized for each student through differentiation. I will equip students with these tools by using processes such as project-based and collaborative learning, data-driven instruction, and a flexible classroom environment.
My Classroom Management Philosophy
My philosophy for classroom management is based on Wong, Conscious Discipline, and Love and Logic. First and foremost, my students need to feel like they are safe and loved. They also need to feel heard by their teacher and have procedures so they will know how to communicate their needs. The procedures are vital for the flow of teaching and learning and will be used in every aspect of our day. Along with these procedures will be natural consequences, such as using time from a different activity to do a reteach. I will use a nurturing approach to show them a failing forward mindset. Overall, it is most important that the students are cared for and that they know the ways to ask for help.
